Currently, HGL has a position open for a non-exempt AP/AR Specialist at our corporate headquarters in Reston, VA.
The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of administrative and paraprofessional responsibilities, frequently confidential or complex in nature, in direct support of the accounting department, requiring accuracy and organization. You will be expected to perform within broad guidelines, relying on your proficiency and experience to accomplish most activities with limited direction. You will be communicating with other employees, vendors, and possibly clients on a regular basis. Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Process checks and payments
Prepare and perform check runs
Effectively communicate with vendors, employees, and clients
Process cash receipts
Follow up on short pays and overpayments
Enter invoices into Costpoint
Special projects or duties as assigned
The successful candidate will be expected to have the ability to understand and perform assignments within the general prescribed guidelines. The following skills are required:
Advanced skills using standard office equipment including printers, scanners, fax machines, and copiers.
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with employees, vendors, clients, and contractors.
Strong math and analytical skills in analysis of invoices and Accounts Receivable items.
Proven attention to detail and the ability to remain organized.
Good working knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices applicable to an accounting department.
Ability to learn software programs applicable to an accounting department.

Minimum of 2-4 years of directly related work experience performing responsibilities in accounting with one or more of the following: accounts receivable, accounts payable, billing, payroll, bookkeeping, reconciliations and/or check runs.
Accounts receivable activities to include processing cash receipts and following up on short pay and overpayment situations.
High school diploma plus additional training or education in accounting or finance.
A pre-hire drug test is required.
You must be in good physical condition and able to work standing for several hours while using office machines or when filing and should be able to lift up to 30lbs as needed to move items about the office.
