Currently, HGL is currently seeking an experienced Senior Billing Accountant to join our accounting team in the Reston, VA Office.

The selected individual will work closely with HGL project and program managers, as well as the accounting, contracts and procurement staff to manage all aspects of billing for their assigned contracts.

A positive, well-organized, solution-oriented creative thinker will be a great addition to an awesome accounting team!  The ideal candidate has federal government billing experience and will effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, be detail/compliance oriented, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities and demonstrate complex problem-solving skills; he or she will be flexible and work well both independently and collaboratively within a strong team, in an exciting, fast-paced, deadline driven environment.


The Senior Accountant will have the primary responsibility of managing all aspects of billing for their assigned contracts. They will also collaborate with internal and external regarding billing issues.

  • Using Deltek Costpoint, timely prepare accurate complex CPFF, T&M, FFP and milestone billing in accordance with contractual and FAR regulations
  • Review billing data from various sources to verify amounts and account numbers are accurate
  • Collaborate with other departments to prepare, adjust and verify pre-bill documents before invoicing
  • Investigate and resolve issues found in the calculation of invoices when necessary as well as working with Project Managers to ensure invoices are accurate and complete prior to submission
  • Complete project closeout and rate variance invoice preparation
  • Maintain spreadsheets and complete reports as requested, including monthly AR report updates
  • Monitor and communicate potential issues, such as funding or billing discrepancies, that may impact the billing process
  • Assist in DCAA audits by providing necessary documentation
  • Assist accounting team in applying proper revenue recognition, validating sales tax on invoices and other accounting controls.
  • Potential to manage other billing staff

Required Skills

The following skills are required for the position:

  • Previous experience with Deltek Costpoint
  • Microsoft Office – advanced Excel skills, experience with Word and Outlook
  • Familiarity with government invoicing systems (RMS, WAWF)

Required Experience

Our ideal candidate will have at least 6 years of billing experience in the government contracting industry.

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field is preferred. We will consider the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
