Description/Job Summary

HGL is currently seeking a full-time junior to mid-level HR Generalist to join our Corporate HR department in the Reston, VA office. HydroGeoLogic, Inc. (HGL) is a Federal Contractor with offices throughout the U.S. Currently, at 350+ employees HGL is in a growth phase. This is a great opportunity for someone who wishes to gain exposure to the Federal contracting environment, who wants to expand their knowledge or discover what HR specialty best suits their career objectives.

The primary responsibilities of this position are that of an HR generalist with a mix of recruiting, onboarding, HRIS, training, and employee relations. Must be able to interact effectively at all levels of the organization, ensure compliance and keep current with Federal rulings and deadlines.
Routine duties will include:

  • Being an active member of the HR Team in related functions such as: recruiting, onboarding, HRIS, reporting, training, and maintaining personnel and confidential files
  • Facilitate the hiring process including working with hiring managers on job descriptions, posting positions, and preparing offer letters
  • Manage the onboarding process including e-Verify and new hire paperwork
  • Maintain the ATS and HRIS systems (BalanceTrak and ADP Workforce Now)
  • Provide monthly reports as requested by HR Team and Senior Management
  • Provide support to employees on basic employee relations questions and inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs
  • Update and maintain the new hire SharePoint page and HGL LinkedIn profile
  • Update and maintain internal training offerings for employees and supervisors
  • Provide employee counseling
  • Special projects as assigned

Required Skills

Our team of four is looking for a person with strong communication and organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail. Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite required. Good Excel skills needed to successfully complete work. Our team is looking for a person who has demonstrated leadership skills to bring to this career-building position.

Required Experience

When reviewing applicants’ credentials, we will be looking for the following experience:

  • Database or HRIS experience for tracking personnel data
  • ADP and/or Federal Contractor experience
  • Two plus years of work experience where confidentiality was critical to successfully performing the duties required.

Required Education

Should have 3 years of acceptable work experience with an AA degree, or 1.5 to 2+ years of acceptable experience with a 4-year degree. Additional years of HR work experience may be considered in place of a degree. Specific degree/course work is not critical, but Business or Psychology degrees are certainly helpful. 


Must be able to carry materials to and from the file/copy room, stand for brief periods of time to make copies or scan documents. HGL offers a full complement of benefits, bi-weekly pay schedule, and a casual dress work environment. Pre-employment Drug Test required.
