Description/Job Summary

Currently, HGL is seeking 2 Staff/Field Geologist to join our team in St. Louis, Missouri. HGL (HydroGeologic, Inc.), is an industry leader with over 32 years of experience providing comprehensive environmental engineering services by implementing innovative, effective, and sustainable solutions that address today‚Äôs environmental, infrastructure, and natural resource challenges. HGL provides environmental engineering, remediation, and construction services, as well as Military Munitions Response Program support to the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Energy, and other federal and state government clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for

  • site characterization sampling of soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater;
  • installing, developing, and abandoning groundwater monitoring wells;
  • laboratory sample management and documentation;
  • supervising drilling subcontractors;
  • preparing soil boring, monitoring well construction, and lithologic description field logs;
  • confirmation sampling in support of remedial excavation activities;
  • chemical decontamination of environmental sampling equipment;
  • calibration and operation of air and water quality monitoring equipment;
  • preparation and review of field documentation and logbooks;
  • the use of portable radiological monitoring instruments.
  • Technical support and/or supervision of a variety of project tasks will be required.
  • Must be able to execute multiple projects and tasks concurrently.
  • Local travel in the St. Louis area and vicinity will be required.

Required Skills

Required skills must include

  • ability to execute multiple tasks concurrently;
  • Have excellent communication and organizational skills;
  • Working with and maintaining confidential information;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Working under detailed quality assurance/quality control programs, supporting contaminated soil excavation, confirmation sampling and environmental monitoring;
  • Generating clear and legible field documentation, logbooks, reports, supervising drilling operations and field mapping and borehole logging.

Preferred Skills

Working knowledge of ArcGIS software and integration with field GPS data collection activities.  Ability to support design and construction activities is preferred.

Required Experience

4 or more years of experience performing the duties of a geologist supporting environmental/geologic projects is required.

Preferred Experience

Previous experience performing the duties of a geologist on a project involving remediation of radiological materials.  Experience with real-time data acquisition, including GIS, is preferred.

Required Education

The Staff Geologist position requires a minimum of a BA/BS degree in a Geology or a related field plus 4 or more years of experience.

Preferred Education

Master of Science degree in a related science or engineering field of study.

Required Qualifications

  • Current OSHA HAZWOPER 40 hour (or ability to obtain) and annual 8 hr refresher,
  • medical clearance (including respirator fit)
  • Good physical health and the ability to lift 30 pounds are required for performance of field tasks
  • Ability to work in adverse weather and site conditions is required.


The position is based in St. Louis, MO and required US citizenship.
A pre-hire drug test and physical exam are required.
